Intragastric balloon

This is a simple method for weight loss which requires no surgery at all. The doctor does a simple gastroscopy first to exclude the presence of a disease in the stomach i.e. ulcer, hiatial hernia etc. If the stomach is normal the doctor is introducing the balloon into the stomach and is filling it with 500 ml of normal saline. The balloon produces early satiety and reduces food intake and finally weight loss. The balloon is left into the stomach for six months and is then removed again with simple gastroscopy. Usually the six months period that the balloon is in the stomach is enough for a person to loose significant amount of his excess weight.
