Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy

Under general anesthesia with laparoscopic approach a part of the stomach is excised. The stomach after this operation produces less grhelin, a hormone that increases the appetite and the amount of food that can be consumed is reduced to a volume of 100 - 150 ml. The pylorus remains unattached and the passage of food into the duodenum and the rest of the bowel are normal.

With this surgical method weight loss is due to early satiety and to food restriction. The operation lasts usually within 90 min.
